We have always enhanced our curriculum with trips and experiences for your children. Over the past few years the cost of travel to these has risen greatly and we are thinking about ways that we can maintain these enhancements whilst keeping costs manageable for you.
An example of the price of travel is our class 3 trip to Walesby. Although this is under 30 miles the total cost of the coach is £610. With our small cohorts these costs are even higher as the total cost of the coach is shared between as few as 22 children. With some of our families having two children in one class, these requests for payment can be burdensome.
For the time being we will continue with our residential trips for children in years 3,4, 5 and 6. These have such an impact on children and the skills they acquire by being away from home are difficult to replicate. We will be reviewing these trips at some point though, as some parents are paying out for these for six years running if their children are two school years apart and longer if they have more than two children! At around £300 each trip this is not be taken lightly.
To lessen the cost of curriculum trips, whilst maintaining the high quality learning experience, we are going to be sourcing more outside providers and visiting companies to bring experiences to school. As with a trip, we will have to charge for these but they will be considerably less than if we were going out of school.
The first of these experiences is our Diwali Dance and Celebration Day on Thursday 9th November. This will cost £4 per child and is payable via Squid. This will be a fabulous day of learning for your children and will give them experiences we couldn’t provide ourselves and we are really looking forward to it.
