As a school, we promote the development of skills that will allow the children to make sense of the world around them. These scientific skills include: enquiring - being able to openly ask searching and purposeful questions to deepen thinking and wonder; making predictions; experimenting and testing; investigating and interpreting results, and making observations.
We use the Cornerstones scheme of learning to support development through carrying out creative investigations, after considering the importance of doing the experiment and exploring the prior knowledge that is necessary to make predictions. As staff, we carefully link the science focus to the topic that we are exploring, encouraging the link across the curriculum, as well as any relation they can make between the learning and what they have experienced, or may experience, in everyday life.
