You will need to contact Rattle and Roll if you would like your child to attend On the Stage (dance, drama and singing) on Wednesdays after school. This is being led by Marcus and the theme this term is Roald Dahl. Rattle and Roll also offer small group instrumental lessons - ukulele, guitar, violin, cello, piano, clarinet, flute and voice which take place during the school day.

We are approaching the time of year when our children undertake statutory tests. Your children are assessed on the core areas of learning that they have experienced throughout each Key Stage in the form of written papers.
Key Stage 1 assessments take place throughout May and Key Stage 2 papers are undertaken during the week beginning 13th May - grammar, punctuation and spelling on Monday 13th, reading on Tuesday 14th and maths papers on Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th . Children in year 1 complete a phonics check during the week beginning 10th June.
These assessments provide an insight into your child's academic ability in relation to their peers nationally. However, this is only a very small part of the education we provide here at Langar. There is no test to capture the moment your child thoughtfully came to the staffroom sourcing an icepack for an injured friend, the elation they felt scoring a goal for our school football team, the joy of handing over funds raised for their house charity. The Department of Education will not publish data that shows how well our children behave, how articulate they are, how many of them play an instrument or take part in an extra-curricular activity. Their ability to dance, garden, speak French, map read, model make or draw won't be celebrated nationally either. But it will here.
So we implore you - encourage your children to do their best - but do not lose sight of all the best bits of them.
We have had the most wonderful end to the term today, culminating in Experience Easter Day. The day started with a reflective and uplifting collective worship led by Rae Halpin and then children worked in house groups to complete a number of egg-citing activities organised by Mrs Turner in church and the PTA in school.
The PTA worked tirelessly to make sure every child made an Easter bonnet, an Easter card, wrote a crazy story, took part in an Easter egg hunt and was challenged to construct the highest tower possible out of art straws to put an egg on top! In church the children worked round stations representing the Easter journey through Holy Week. Mrs Turner was joined by Rae Halpin and Mrs and Mrs Dargue who led the children in creating Easter gardens, prayer stones and crosses as well as ordering the Easter story, eating resurrection rolls and taking part in the washing of feet!
The children have been reflective and thoughtful throughout the activities and our volunteers commented on their beautiful manners and great team spirit.
Eight children were selected to take part in an inter-schools football tournament at Nottingham Forest Training Ground yesterday. Accompanied by Mr Zisaruk-Gibson, Mr Murphy and Mrs Brown they spent the afternoon playing at the same ground as the first team and competing against sixteen other school teams. A fantastic time was had by all, and the children were complimented by other coaches for their determination, skilful play and team spirit.
The attached flier provides information about how you can get involved with further training opportunities with Notts Forest.
