  • Birthday Cards for Jeannie

    Fri 26 Feb 2021

West Bridgford lady will be 108 years old next week - send her a card because she can't have a big party! | West Bridgford Wire

Mr Fothergill told us about Jeannie who is going to be 108 on Saturday and having to miss out on her usual celebrations due to the lockdown. The children in school decided to make cards for her in a bid to contribute to 108 cards for her 108th birthday! He delivered these cards to her care home yesterday and we hope they make her smile.

  • School Reopening Soon!

    Wed 24 Feb 2021

We were all so excited to hear Boris Johnson announce that we will have you all back at school on Monday 8th March!

We are reviewing our plans from before Christmas to ensure that they meet the new guidance (which only has very minor changes this time) and have created a vision for our ' Revive, Renew and Recover' curriculum. In line with our school ethos, this plan is centred around the building of foundations for academic excellence by securing a core set values and bank of learning skills.

You can take a look at this here Covid-19 Recovery Planning | Langar C of E Primary School (secure-primarysite.net)

  • Bubble Closure Further Information

    Sun 07 Feb 2021

Thank you for all the kind messages of support you have sent about our decision to close next week. A few common questions have arisen so I thought I would make sure you all receive the same messages:

    * It is a positive case in class 4 that has caused the closure. This is the only bubble of children that need to self-isolate.
    * The ten day period of self-isolation ends on Friday 12th February as the start day is from the onset of the staff member's symptoms.
    * All children will be able to access remote learning and teachers who normally provide packs will put these out in the reception area for children who would have undertaken this in school.
    * Please show understanding if there is delay in responses to emails and work submitted to the class 4 email.

Please contact via head@langar.notts.sch.uk if you have further queries.

  • Bubble Closure

    Sat 06 Feb 2021

I am really sorry to have to write this  having got this far without too much disruption to your children and you, our families due to Coronavirus; a feat I am certain that should be celebrated.   I had hoped we could get through to half term without having any cases in school but today I have been notified of a positive PCR result by a member of staff. This has implications for every member of staff and every child in school.

Bubbles have been put in place to try to limit the need for entire closures and, if a positive case is confirmed in a child, this system works very well.  However, when the positive case involves a staff member it can be a little more difficult. The definition of close contact is very strict and includes:

Face to face or skin on skin

Within 1m for a minute (over the course of a day)

Within 2m for 15 minutes(over the course of a day)

Discussion was had between school, Public Health and the DfE regarding close contact and it was agreed that it was impossible to guarantee that multiple staff working in every bubble had not been in close contact therefore, for the health and safety of all children and staff in school, and their families, the decision has been taken to close next week.

We appreciate that this may cause inconvenience to families but we need to be very clear about this, it has been done to limit the potential spread of the virus and to prevent others from potentially becoming ill.

The inconvenience you may be experiencing is also being experienced by school staff many of whom are now needing to self-isolate – they have families that are impacted by this, they have some of the same childcare issues you may be facing and they are also very worried for their friend and colleague.

Those staff and children who have been in close contact with the person who has tested positive will receive an attached letter and told to self-isolate until 12th February 2021.   Details of what to do if your child develops symptoms are included in the letter.

The decision to close a school is not taken by one person, it is taken in consultation with Public Health England and the DfE and it is certainly not one taken lightly or on a whim.

The school will remain closed to all until Tuesday 23rd  February 2021, when we reopen after half term, unless there are any further cases confirmed.

A formal letter has been sent to affected parents  from the DFE/PHE but it can read a little cold I wanted to write a personal letter to you all.

Please contact us if you have questions but please be aware, I may not be able to answer all of your questions due to issues of confidentiality.

Please stay safe and take care,

    Emily Brown

  • COVID-19 Winter Grant Scheme (CWGS)

    Wed 03 Feb 2021

Nottinghamshire County Council have recently made us aware of the COVID-19 Winter Grant Scheme (CWGS) and how residents may make a claim.

If you are not currently in receipt of free school meals and are struggling financially because of COVID, you can request supermarket vouchers and may be able to get assistance with your energy and water bills. Families who are eligible for free school meals may still be referred to the scheme, but we are asked to prioritise those that are not. If you decide to apply, please let us know whether you are currently in receipt of free school meals.

If you meet one of the following criteria, and would like to apply for supermarket vouchers, please let the office know (in complete confidence):

    — The household is in receipt of or has made an application for Universal Credit or other Income Related Employment or Support Allowance (ESA), Income or Jobseekers Allowance income based.

    — The household has no recourse to public funds.

    — There is considerable in-work poverty (which may be temporary).

    — The household has been assessed by a professional as in urgent need as they do not have the means for essential food, energy or water

The following considerations and restrictions must be applied: The value of each voucher should not exceed the following allocations:

    — Supermarket vouchers can be used to purchase food and other essential items.

    — £30 vouchers can be allocated per household member. If there are more than 3 members of the household, we can only issue a voucher up to £90.

    — Households can claim vouchers through this scheme no more than 3 times between now and the end of March 2021. In exceptional cases this can be extended with prior approval from the COVID Winter Grant project team (email below).

    — Households can access up to £178 total per household in respect of utilities (up to two fuel payments at £49, one water payment of £80).

    — Repeat requests will be monitored in order to signpost to effective long-term support and advice.

    — Supporting evidence of need and eligibility should be seen and recorded for audit purposes, if the referring agency is in doubt of the families’ needs.

    Exclusions:

    — Those who live outside of the Nottinghamshire County Council borders will be excluded from this scheme and will need to approach their own Local Authority. Children and young people who live out of area but attend a County School/College or Early Years setting will still receive February half term vouchers from Nottinghamshire County Council.  — Housing costs are expressly excluded. The scheme is not intended to cover payment of rent or other housing costs because these are not directly related to food or utility bills and other benefits and support is available to cover these costs.

    — The grant will not be used for white goods e.g. a fridge. But schools can register to use the BBC Children in Need Emergency Essentials Programme to request items such as white goods and furniture on behalf of  households with children.
