  • Art Exhibition - Children's Competition

    Thu 30 Sep 2021

We are holding our Art Exhibition in the Langar cum Barnstone Hall, in aid of THE LANGAR cum BARNSTONE VILLAGE HALL BUILDING FUND!

As it is Halloween, we have thought of something artistic to enable the younger folk to participate in the Exhibition.

     A HALLOWEEN PUMPKIN CARVING COMPETITION.

We will be holding the Exhibition on Sunday 31st October, Halloween, from 10am to 1pm.

Entry to the public is by donation.

This therefore is an open invitation to all parents, carers, teachers and grandparents and everyone else.

    Refreshments will be available.

We require the CARVED PUMPKINS to be delivered to the Hall by 12 noon for judging and, so that we can make note of whose work of art belongs to whom. The PUMPKINS will be displayed on the Hall stage to be judged. There will be ONE CASH PRIZE for the best carved PUMPKIN.

  • Bank Holiday - Queen's Platinum Jubilee

    Tue 28 Sep 2021

As the bank holiday for the platinum jubilee falls in May half term, many local authorities, and now Nottinghamshire, have permitted schools to have a day off elsewhere in the year.

Nottinghamshire have instructed schools to break up for the summer term a day early. As we already have two INSET days, this will mean our last day of the summer term is Monday 25th July. I will amend the calendar to reflect this.

  • Harvest Festival

  • Childcare Access

    Thu 23 Sep 2021

We are fortunate to be able to provide before and after school childcare as well as a nursery on our premises through the Early Years Learning Alliance. Provision is excellent, with a purpose built room at the end of our building.

Over the years, with the tightening of safeguarding procedures, the design and whereabouts of the childcare room as proved less than ideal, with access being across the playground for nursery parents and carers. It can be very concerning for school staff to see unknown adults in the grounds, especially during playtimes or outdoor We have trialled and tried many ways to ensure access to childcare is welcoming whilst having the tightest safety possible for our children in school.

With the national guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education and our Child Protection policy having been updated we have been prompted to review these access procedures.

    Who?

    Entrance and Exit Points

    Additional Safety Measure

    Preschool Parents

Via the main gate on Barnstone Road using the buzzer and video cam.

Do not let anyone else in the gate with you. The gate must be shut behind you so that preschool staff can check them in.

Pull the gate tightly behind you and check it is closed.

    Out of School Club Parents

    Via the school office entrance.

Out of School Club will have their own doorbell in the lobby and will bring your children to you to exit the building.

At times children are taken outside to play, especially if you arrive before 4.30; a sign will be put on the bell if this is the case and you will be directed to collect from the main school gate.

Please note; the car park is for staff and deliveries only, and parents are not permitted to use it for drop off and collection of children.

As always, these changes are made in the very best interests of your children.

  • Punctuality

    Tue 21 Sep 2021

I wish to remind you of the timings of the start of the school day, as outlined previously in letters sent at the end of the summer and the start of the autumn term.

The school gate will be open from 8.35am with entry to the school building from 8.40am. Registration takes place at 8.50am. Children are permitted to enter school at any point during these ten minutes. This allows parents a softer start to the day and a slightly staggered start for parking and drop off.

Children arriving after registration are considered late. We had a considerable number of children arriving after registration this morning.  These children will have a late mark in the register.

In future, we will need you to provide a reason for your child's late arrival by filling in the form in the office.

We thank you for your support and ask for your co-operation to ensure the best possible start to your child's day.

  • INSET Days

    Fri 10 Sep 2021

I thought I had would send out confirmation of our INSET dates this year, as we have had a couple of queries about it.

Schools are able to set five INSET days throughout the year, for staff training and development purposes. We try to tag these on to holidays, for your convenience, but at times need to update training at other points of the year. Our first INSET day was used to start the year and is set by Nottinghamshire County Council. Our next INSET day is on Monday 27th September.

The following three INSET days - as published on the school calendar - are Monday 1st November, Wednesday 27th July and Thursday 28th July.

  • Autumn Term Learning

    Thu 09 Sep 2021

Your children have settled back into school beautifully. It has been such a joy to see them altogether for playtimes, lunch and collective worship.

All classes have started history topics, which will last all term. You can find out about the content of your children's topics by clicking on the relevant year groups and taking a look at the 'Content Card.' We are currently on Year A.

    Discover - History Driver | Langar C of E Primary School (secure-primarysite.net)

Teachers have planned Learning to Learn homework tasks for children to complete as and when they choose. These provide a wonderful opportunity for you to get involved with the topic they are learning and for your children to develop their personal skills as well as acquiring further knowledge. These are on class pages.

Should you wish to further develop your history knowledge of the local area take a look at A History of Langar for young people - A History of Langar for young people (jimdofree.com) and try out some of the quizzes that were created to encourage children to navigate around the site  History | Langar C of E Primary School (secure-primarysite.net)

Children are also taught the full range of curriculum subjects. If you wish to look at the end of year groups outcomes for these subjects, then please look at the 'Academic Excellence' page Academic Excellence - Curriculum Subjects | Langar C of E Primary School (secure-primarysite.net) and click on the relevant subject. As well as information about the way the subject is taught, you will also see year group expectations and a range of resources and ideas to support your understanding and in turn your child's understanding of the subject.
