  • Harvest Service

    Fri 29 Sep 2023

It was such a joy to gather so many of you together for the service this afternoon. Our new Worship Leaders led the service beautifully and it was great to hear from Ben about the work of The Friary.

  • Break Time Snacks

    Fri 29 Sep 2023

At the start of the year I sent this message -

Children in KS1 are provided with fruit and children under 5 with free milk as part of a government initiative. You can opt to pay for milk when they are over 5 if you wish and can do so via the office.

We would like to encourage you to send children in KS2 in with a portion of fruit (including dried) or vegetables as a snack for break time. The morning can feel quite long to children in the wait for lunchtime and eating a snack ensures concentration levels remain high. These should be separate to lunch bags and boxes and be in school bags ready for break.

Yesterday it was observed that some children have started bringing crisps and cereal bars. These are not permitted and in the spirit of fairness they will be asked to put these away to enjoy after school.

  • When the Adults Change, Everything Changes

    Thu 28 Sep 2023

Like me, I am sure many of you reflect on the relationships you had with adults when you were children and see how very different they were to the relationships children have with adults today. These changes have brought about many positive things, but there are also challenges.

Some of the challenges that adults face is knowing where to put boundaries for children. Children enjoy a lot of choice today and the voice of the child is central.  Boundaries can be seen as restrictive or strict, and routines seen boring and limiting, when in fact the opposite is true, and children need boundaries and routines to feel cared for, loved and safe.

As educators, we never stop learning and over summer, we all enjoyed reading a book by Paul Dix; When the Adults Change, Everything Changes. We followed this up on our INSET day with training on how to implement the ideas.

The model is relationship based. Fostering warm, caring, respectful relationships between adults and children, with adults showing the behaviour they wish the children to demonstrate. 'People will follow people first, and rules second.' And with strategies to make children feel loved and safe like routines and clear expectations.  This may sound easy, but it takes a lot of hard work.

We have implemented some cornerstones, absolute consistencies - The Key Three -  that we expect to see from all adults, and children, throughout the day: Meet and Greet, Legendary Line Ups and Wonderful Walking. These create a sense of belonging and a clam atmosphere. Ask your children about them - I am sure they will give a demonstration!

We have committed to a 'this is how we do it here' approach, where children will get the same script from staff no matter who deals with their poor behaviours. We have high expectations and will praise children for going above and beyond showing the basic values.

We are already seeing a great and positive impact on the atmosphere around school. I know that lots of children have spoken about it at home.

We will keep providing you with information about this, as it is a fascinating and vast subject. If you would like to try and of the techniques at home, or want to find out more; Paul Dix has written a book called When the Parents Change, Everything Changes.

  • Absence and Cover

    Wed 27 Sep 2023

As you will be aware, Mrs Turner is absent from work at the moment. Any staff absence always has an impact, on staff, children and parents, which we try to mitigate as very best we can.

We are really fortunate that Mrs Nicholson is a well known member of our school family and the children in class 3 have enjoyed consistency and continuity over the past couple of weeks. She has done a wonderful job!

However, Mrs Nicholson has other commitments away from our school, working in other schools and running a private tutoring business. To ensure her wellbeing, and in turn the wellbeing of the class, we are going to have a supply teacher job sharing the class with her.

We are meeting the teacher tomorrow and will introduce them to you as soon as we, and they, have committed to the working pattern.

Please direct any communication about the class to Mrs Nicholson, if in regards to academic, medical, behavioural or wellbeing needs and the office for issues around absence or appointments.

I do hope you appreciate our openness and thank you for your understanding and support.

  • Roles of Responsibility

    Mon 25 Sep 2023

Lots of children have brought in application forms today! We are really excited about reading through them and finding suitable children for the roles.

Please see the photos below to find out the job and person spec!

Tomorrow afternoon we will launch the houses and the house captian applicants will get the opportunity to present themselves to the houses. Please ensure your child feels ready for this.

  • Harvest Collective Worship 2023

    Fri 22 Sep 2023

Parents and families are welcome to join us in church next Friday for our annual harvest collective worship. The service will begin at 2.00pm and if you would like to you can follow us straight back to school to collect your children as it will be near to home time.

The theme of the collective worship will be 'taking care' which is our focus value this half term. We will be 'taking care' of our neighbours by collecting items for The Friary. The Friary provides food and shelter for rough sleepers in Nottingham. Your donations will made a real difference.

The Friary would welcome donations of:

Food: Bottles of squash and water, tinned items of beans, tomatoes, soups and meats, tea, coffee and sugar, cereal bars and chocolate bars, crisps and biscuits, long like milk, pasta sauces, jams, marmalades and spreads, cans of pop.

Clothes and Items: one person tents, large rucksacks and holdalls, boxers and joggers (M &L), T shirts (male any size), trainers (any size in good condition).

Toiletries: washing powder, washing up liquid, toothbrushes, shower gels, deodorants (male and female).

Please make sure your children are able to carry the items you send as we will be walking them all over to church!

  • Spooky Disco

    Wed 20 Sep 2023

The Friends would like to invite all children in school to a spooky disco! A chance for them to wear spooky costumes, eat spooky food and enjoy spooky fun and games!

More details to follow and we will let you know when the offer is put on Squid. Pop the date in your diaries!

  • PSHE and PE

    Tue 12 Sep 2023

I am sure your children came home yesterday full of excitement about the wonderful PE and PSHE sessions they took part in. Mr Dillon, who is new to our school and Mrs George are delivering these sessions as subject specialists whilst teachers have their planning, preparation and assessment time. Classes 3 and 4 start their day with these sessions and classes 1 and 2 have them in the afternoon.

All classes will be learning hockey skills with Mr Dillon for this first half term which will take place outside. Do ensure your child comes in a PE kit every Monday for this, with tracksuit bottoms and their school jumper/ cardigan if needed to warmth.

Mrs George will be following the Jigsaw scheme after October half term but will start the year introducing the children to The Zones of Regulation. This is set to be a year long project and we will be offering an information session for parents too.

Watch out on class pages for updates about what your child has been learning.

  • Pupil Numbers and Spaces Available

    Fri 08 Sep 2023

We are receiving phone calls from parents already who are wanting to look around school with a view to their child starting reception next September! Please share this flier with anyone, in or out of catchment, who has a child of that age.

    tour-flier-2023.pdf (primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com)

We also have spaces in some of our year groups for children moving into the area or wishing to transfer from another school. These spaces are in current reception, one space in year 2, five spaces in year 3, towospaces in year 4 and five spaces in year 5. Year 6 is full.

It is important we fill these spaces as our funding next year is calculated on the number of children in school on the day of the census in November. A drop in funding can be detrimental, as it means we have to pull back on resources we are able to buy, experiences we can pay for and ultimately, staffing levels. Therefore, we are appealing to you to spread the word and promote the school!

  • Extra Curricular Clubs

    Thu 07 Sep 2023

We are delighted to have a wide range of clubs starting after school next week. These are all run by outside providers which ensures they are high quality. Letters, details and contacts for these are on the clubs page School Clubs | Langar C of E Primary School (secure-primarysite.net)

    Monday - Dodgeball and Tennis

Thursday - La Jolie Ronde (French Club) and Forest Bugs

Friday - On the Stage (performing arts club)

We also offer individual and small group instrumental lessons. Drumming starts on Monday and all other lessons start next week too. If your child has expressed an intretst in playing an instrument then get in touch with the providers on the clubs page.

Mrs Whelan will resume recorder lessons on Tuesday. These all take place on Tuesday. Please ensure your child has their recorder and book every week and that they show commitment by practicing regularly. It is unique here that school pay for recorder lessons for any child who wishes to take it up. The recorder provides a brilliant foundation to musical understanding and enables children to access a rage of instruments should they wish to move on.
