  • PTA Langar Jam

    Mon 24 Jun 2019

We had the most amazing afternoon on Friday, thanks to our instrumentalists and the PTA. The afternoon was kicked off at 2.00 with performances from our fantastic musicians who gave the audience a real treat with music ranging from Phantom of the Opera to Abba, Classical to Blues. This was then followed by Langar Jam - a traditional summer fair with a twist. The children loved the pony rides, the ice-cream van, the John Deere tractor, rounders match, stocks, face-paints, glitter tattoos and more. The field was awash with families and friends enjoying delicious food from the barbecue and cake stall and drinks from the bar.  It was wonderful to see families enjoying the fun together and children and adults joined in the Drumba demonstration and rounders match!

Creating a sense of community was at the heart of this event and I am thrilled to say that, thanks to the efforts and hard work of the PTA - it was a great success.

    * Please email any photos of the event to the office (I was too busy face-painting to take any!)

  • KS1 Magical Maths News

    Mon 24 Jun 2019

This week was magical with games, fun & stand up bingo...

Yes the Mathemagician was here again for another fun packed week of magical maths. The Mathemagician enjoyed being creative and playing magical games with the children!

    Magical Maths Art

Learning objectives: Compare, describe and solve practical problems for: -  Lengths and heights (e.g. long/short, longer/shorted, tall/short, double/half, ‘half as high’; ‘twice as wide’) -  Mass or weight (e.g. heavy/light, heavier than, lighter than) -  Capacity and volume (e.g. full/empty, more than, less than, half, half full, quarter) Describe position, directions and movements: -  Left, right, top, middle and bottom, on top of, in front of, above, between, around, near, close and far, up and down, forwards and backwards, inside and outside.

The children drew pictures to show different sizes of images.  They also made up their own sums but by using art.  The magician was impressed with their pictures.  I’m sure you would be too.

This activity helps children with a variety of important areas, including Longer/shorter, tall/short, double/half, half as high and so on. Everybody did really well. Above is an image of the booklet; I hope you like it!

    Magical Maths Trail

Learning objectives: Pupils should recognise and name common 2D and 3D shapes, including: - 2D shapes (e.g. rectangles (inc. squares), circles and triangles) - 3D shapes (e.g. cuboids (including cubes), pyramids and spheres) - Identify 2D shapes on the surface of 3D shapes, (for example a circle on a cylinder and a triangle on a pyramid) - Compare and sort common 2D and 3D shapes and everyday objects.

This activity is great one. It’s “I spy” but uses shapes.  Whoever is saying “I spy” has to pick an object from around the room but instead of stating the starting letter they called out the shape.  The children enjoyed looking for the objects around the room.

Afterwards the children had some time to complete a shape hunt as a group.

    Stand up Bingo

Learning objectives: Recall and use multiplication facts for the 2, 5 and 10 multiplication tables. Show that multiplication of two numbers can be done in any order (commutative). They connect the 10 table to place value, and the 5 table to the divisions on the clock face.

The children work together as a team and use their multiplication skills to play this game.  They throw dice and teams take turns to multiply the numbers on the dice.  If resulting number is on their grid a child sits down.  The game continues until all of the children in one of the teams are sitting down.  The first team to have all of the children sitting down is the winning team. Hoooray!

A magical week that's for certain, please let us know what you thought, we love to hear from you and we do read all emails.

P.S. - Next week we have a visit from the Olympic Mathletes to do some sports and games. No P.E. kit necessary, but an Olympian attitude DEFINITELY is!

    The Magician Booklet

Learning objectives: The 11x table trick teaches children to multiply any 2-digit number by 11. By year 3, pupils should be able to solve missing number problems, and by year 6, pupils should be able to use simple formulae, and express missing number problems algebraically.

This booklet will train them how to perform some of the Mathemagian's maths tricks. It features some timeless classics such as “The 11x table trick” and a couple of “Magic Square” tricks.

All students were given a booklet to take home. I'm sure they will show you the tricks tomorrow! :)

    Addition Dice

Learning objectives: addition, subtraction, and place value to 4-digits.

The second activity this week features our Magical Addition Dice.

Speed of calculation is of the essence in this game.

The children learned how to add five randomly-chosen three digit numbers in seconds. WOWZA! :D

    Stand up Bingo

Learning objectives: Recall multiplication and division facts for multiplication tables up to 12 × 12.

The children work together as a team and use their multiplication skills to play this game.  They throw dice and teams take turns to multiply the numbers on the dice.  If resulting number is on their grid a child sits down.  The game continues until all of the children in one of the teams are sitting down.  This team is the winning team. • Class 1 Father's Day Celebration

    Fri 14 Jun 2019

What a wonderful turn out this afternoon for our Father's Day celebration!  The occasion has been used in school for children to talk about all the special male figures in their lives.

The children had a wonderful time, playing games with their special guests and then sharing art work with them. Class 1 have worked hard all week designing and making cards and presents that I am sure will be gratefully received on Sunday.

  • Toot Hill Information Evening

    Fri 14 Jun 2019

Last night we hosted an information evening for the parents of children in years 4 and 5 who wished to find out about our feeder secondary school, Toot Hill. The evening was well attended and parental feedback this morning has been positive about the information provided. It was great to welcome back two of our ex pupils who were able to provide a pupil's perspective of their experience at Toot Hill.

Mr Zisaruk-Gibson stayed willingly to welcome our visiting speaker and the families attending. He stayed for the entire evening in the end, supervising the children who were not with their parents in the meeting. I have expressed my thanks to him this morning, as has a parent who popped in to say that she felt he had gone above and beyond his duties last night. I am certain the other parents would echo these sentiments.

  • Children's Well-Being Festival

    Wed 12 Jun 2019

An event has been brought to our attention that we thought you would want to know about. It would complement the work we do with your children on mental health and well-being. Please follow the link if you would like more details.

    Information form the website:

Do you want to help your children feel inspired about their future and empowered to be happy being their true self?

Then, bring them along to the Positively Empowered Kids Festival: - a fun and exciting day filled with inspiring activities which will help them know that they are extraordinary and believe that they can achieve anything they want. The Festival is aimed at 5-12yr olds, however, there is no age restriction and our aim is that every child will find something to inspire them on the day.

At this jam-packed festival, they will discover through exciting activities and interactive demonstrations, how they can live their best lives and be the best they can be.

Whether you are worried about your child’s current anxiety levels, their lack of self-confidence or just want to help them develop further, our aim is for you and them to leave the festival bursting with ideas and equipped with tools and techniques that will help them to create true success on their own terms.

  • Local Ceilidh Organised by Ex-Pupils

    Tue 11 Jun 2019
It was wonderful to welcome back two familiar faces on Friday who were promoting a charity event they are organising. Emma and Kate Parker are raising money for Addenbrooke’s Cancer Research to help fund their lifesaving work by organising a Ceilidh. It is great to hear that their passion for serving others, which was so often demonstrated here at school, has continued and we hope the event is a great success.
  • Walking Together Track

    Fri 07 Jun 2019

I am delighted to be able to tell you that we have been successful in securing a Lottery grant to create an all-weather running/walking track on the field. This will be installed on 23rd September! I am thrilled that the school are going to have facilities that can provide safe and fun fitness for all members of our community. We will utilise it during school hours and it will be free for public use outside of the school day. We are hopeful that, following the feedback we had from you, that you will want to get involved and make full use of the track. If you would like to set up regular clubs, meets or events on the track, please get in touch and we will help you to publicise it.
