  • Experience Easter Day and Bunny Hop Disco

    Thu 30 Mar 2023

The children have had a brilliant last day of term. They made rice crispie nests in class 3 with eggs on the top. They made Easter cards in class 4. They did a scavenger hunt in class 1 and finally made a stained glass cross in class 2. It was fun.

The day ended with the bunny hop disco. The Friends did an amazing job of organising the food, games and entertainment which was enjoyed by the children.

    It was an eggcellent day!

  • Connect and Reflect Afternoons

    Thu 30 Mar 2023

You will have received an invitation from our booking system for the Connect and Reflect afternoon on Friday 21st April.  This is an opportunity for you to come into school and for your child to share their learning with you.

Although the booking system shows that they are five minute appointments, you can actually drop in at any point from 2.00 until 3.20pm. Please book a slot though as it will give us a clear idea of how many parents are attending and will be used a sign in/out sheet so that we know how many parents are onsite at any given time.

Entry to school will be through reception where you will be taken through to the hall. Chairs will be set out in there for you to gather with your children – even if they are in multiple classes -  who will then bring their work to you for you to share and enjoy.

  • Bunny Hop Disco

    Wed 29 Mar 2023

The Friends are all ready and organised for the Bunny Hop Disco on Thursday. It is set to be a brilliant evening of fun for the children with dancing, games, a quiz and supper. We have sold 74 tickets.

Stacey Tuffey has worked hard to ensure catering meets all dietary needs and the event is risk assessed to ensure it meets health and safety and safeguarding requirements. As a result of this, I must remind you, as it has been in the past, that this is an event for children of school age only.

The children who are staying after school for the disco are invited to bring a change of clothes with them in a bag and we will ensure they have the opportunity to get ready beforehand.

The disco will end promptly at 5.00pm. Please enter the school grounds via the green gate and wait on the playground where children will be brought out to you.

  • Open Afternoon for Prospective New Starters

    Tue 28 Mar 2023

Choosing the right school is tricky and the best way to find the right school for your child is by seeing the school first hand.

After the Easter holidays parents of children due to start in September will have to commit to the school offered to them by NCC Admissions. We are putting on an open afternoon to help these parents ensure they make the right choice for their child.

If you know of anyone with a child due to start school in September, or someone considering moving their child from another school, please share the details of our open afternoon with them.

If they would like more information in advance, signpost them to our website or ask them to contact office@langar.notts.sch.uk or 01949860056

  • Head Lice

    Tue 28 Mar 2023

We have noticed signs of head lice on several children in class 1 this morning. Head lice and nits are very common in young children and their families. They do not have anything to do with dirty hair and are picked up by head-to-head contact.

How to get rid of head lice

Treat head lice as soon as you spot them.

You should check everyone in the house and start treating anyone who has head lice on the same day.

There's no need to keep your child off school if they have head lice.

    Wet combing

Lice and nits can be removed by wet combing. You should try this method first.

You can buy a special fine-toothed comb (detection comb) online or from pharmacies to remove head lice and nits.

There may be instructions on the pack, but usually you:

    • wash hair with ordinary shampoo
    • apply lots of conditioner (any conditioner will do)
    • comb the whole head of hair, from the roots to the ends

It usually takes about 10 minutes to comb short hair, and 20 to 30 minutes for long, frizzy or curly hair.

Do wet combing on days 1, 5, 9 and 13 to catch any newly hatched head lice. Check again that everyone's hair is free of lice on day 17.

    Medicated lotions and sprays

Ask a pharmacist for advice if you have tried wet combing for 17 days, but your child still has live head lice.

They may recommend using medicated lotions and sprays.

These kill head lice in all types of hair, and you can buy them from pharmacies, supermarkets or online.

Head lice should die within a day. Some lotions and sprays come with a comb to remove dead lice and eggs.

Some treatments need to be repeated after a week to kill any newly hatched lice.

Check the pack to see if they're OK for you or your child and how to use them.

If lotions or sprays do not work, speak to a pharmacist about other treatments.

Some treatments are not recommended because they're unlikely to work.

    For example:

    • products containing permethrin
    • head lice "repellents"
    • electric combs for head lice
    • tree and plant oil treatments, such as tea tree oil, eucalyptus oil and lavender oil herbal remedies
    Information:

The charity Community Hygiene Concern has a video about wet combing for head lice.

    You cannot prevent head lice

There's nothing you can do to prevent head lice.

You can help stop them spreading by wet or dry combing regularly to catch them early.

Do not use medicated lotions and sprays to prevent head lice. They can irritate the scalp.

There's no need for children to stay off school or to wash laundry on a hot wash.

  • Palm Sunday

    Mon 27 Mar 2023

The children learned about the excitement of Palm Sunday during collective worship today. We waved and cheered so that children could experience how it felt to be part of the crowd.

  • Aurora Borealis

    Mon 27 Mar 2023

Thank you to Nigel Wood for this fabulous photo of school that he took last week!

  • Snapshot Reports

    Mon 27 Mar 2023

The purpose of reporting to parents is to create a partnership, to aid and expand your child’s learning experience. With your support and guidance at home, children make more rapid progress and secure a positive attitude towards learning, ensuring education is not seen as a school based job but that learning is for life.

Learning is a journey. In school we review children’s progress on this journey by undertaking regular assessments and observations; celebrating the achievements and planning opportunities to heal gaps and mop up misconceptions. The sooner these interventions take place, the smoother the learning journey is. With our team of highly skilled teachers and TAs these interventions usually take place either during the lesson or through carefully designed support programmes. We would like to make you an active part of this journey.

We report to you on a termly basis to provide an insight into your child’s current position on their journey across the year. Reporting will be published on the same form each term that will track children towards their end of year targets. You will receive the latest snapshot report on Monday 27th March. Teachers will be using a blended approach to generate a child’s position on this grid, utilising both formal assessments (test papers) as well as informal teacher assessments (observations and work done daily).   Your child’s end of year target is marked on the grid. This was a target set based on their starting points (either on entry to EYFS or KS1 assessment).

In order for your child to be making good progress they should be moving nearer to their end of year target, bearing in mind we are two thirds into the year. If you keep each report, you can track their journey.

If you are concerned about the progress they are making, then you will be given the opportunity to talk to your child’s teacher to find out the areas of learning you need to support them in.

Following the receipt of the snapshot report you will have a parent/ teacher meeting.  This will provide an opportunity for your child’s teacher to discuss academic strengths and gaps in their learning, what you can do to help them, the way in which they uphold the school values and utilise learning skills.

These meetings will take place via Zoom and will be held across this week.  A Zoom link will be sent out in an email at the start of that week – click the link to join the meeting. Join the meeting five minutes before your allocated time slot where you will be held in the waiting room. Ensure the name displayed is your child’s name (names the teacher does not recognise will not be let into the meeting). If two parents wish to access the meeting but will not be using the same device, please let us know on your slip so that you can both be let into the meeting. Meetings will be a prompt ten minutes long and will be ended by the teacher even if they are not finished. Should you have a matter that needs discussing that you know will take longer than ten minutes, please arrange your meeting for another time.

Following the virtual meeting you will be invited to a Connect and Reflect afternoon where you can come in and celebrate your child’s learning with them and get a flavour of the work they are doing in school. This will take place in the afternoon of Friday 21st April .

We do hope you find this way of reporting to you useful and meaningful, and look forward to continuing to work in partnership with you for the good of your children.

  • DART Parent Meeting Class 4

    Mon 20 Mar 2023

We are delighted to inform you that the children in class 4 will be undertaking DART sessions after Easter. DART is the new DARE! It stands for Drug, Alcohol and Resilience Training and encompasses lots of important aspects of PSHE and gives the children a chance to explore and role play in scenarios that will help them deal with situations they may encounter in life.

To kick start the course, the lovely DART office Mrs Davies is giving up her time to come to talk to parents. This meeting will take place this Thursday, 24th March at 3:30pm in Class 4. If you have any queries or questions please come along.

We are really looking forward to it!

    Many thanks

    Mr Owen-Jones
