  • Class 3 Cake Sale

    Tue 27 Feb 2024

Class 3 have been planning a gardening project this half term and clearing the area outside their classroom in preparation for this. They have worked really hard and are very enthusiastic.

The children suggested a cake sale to raise money for plants and equipment needed. Therefore, we would be very grateful of donations of cakes or biscuits from class 3 parents, that they can sell on the playground after school on Friday. These do not have to be homemade as we know how busy life is!

Cakes and biscuits will be sold for a suggested donation of 50p each with any greater donation gratefully received.

  • Let's Celebrate

    Tue 27 Feb 2024

We know that this is a good school. We know that children here are nurtured and cared for and receive a well rounded education. We know children here behave well because of our values based system. We know your children are being educated by a team of excellent educators. We know we have an outstanding package for the personal development and the wellbeing of children. We know the list of what we do well is too extensive to write here!

We know you value the work we do here. However, it is always pleasing when outside recognition is given for the work we do!

We have received a letter from parliament today, congratulating us for the exceptionally high outcomes for Key Stage 2 pupils last year. With 92% of pupils achieving the expected standard or higher in maths, reading and writing we are in the top 1% of primary schools in the country. Our pupils made outstanding progress across their primary journey with progress scores of 4.7 in reading, 6.2 in writing and 5.3 in maths placing our outcomes in the top 5% of primary schools in the country.

We are always keen to point out that these outcomes are even more exceptional as they are down to excellent teaching - not hot housing, not boosting, not cramming and not narrowing the curriculum. Of this, we are really proud.

  • E Safety and Acceptable Use of ICT

    Tue 20 Feb 2024

I have been reviewing some of our E-Safety and Acceptable Use of ICT documents following DFE updates and recent issues that have occurred, both in our school, locally and nationally.

The online world is both an exciting but scary place and you will have read stories in the news about how children can be living lives that are completely hidden from their families leading them to either criminal activity or becoming the victim of such. It is all too easy to take a 'it wouldn't happen to me' attitude, but training Mrs George has taken part in has demonstrated that this just isn't the case.

Children have been taking part in online safety lessons in school and we are now reaching out for your support with this. Please take a look at the E-Safety and Acceptable Use of ICT policy Information Technology | Langar C of E Primary School (secure-primarysite.net). I will be sending home Appendix 2 and 3 with children for you to read with them and sign to show your support and understanding.

You will have seen in the news that the DFE has recommended the banning of the use of mobile phones in school by children. We have always had a policy that mobile phones and smart watches are not allowed in school for children because we could then have primary aged children making contact with people outside of school, or accessing the internet unsupervised whilst on our site. It is a safeguarding decision.

Where a parent feels it is a necessity for their child to bring a mobile phone to school (e.g. because they walk to and from school independently and use it to communicate with a parent or carer), the device should be switched off and handed to the Head Teacher/class teacher/office as they enter the school/classroom in the morning. Phones/smart watches are then looked after throughout the school day and handed back to the child at home time. This is at the owner’s risk should something happen to the handed in device.

Under no circumstances should children have access to their phone/smart watch during the school day and devices are not to be left in pupils’ bags or coats. Where this policy is not followed, the device will be confiscated, and parents informed and requested to come into school to collect the item. An exception would be for medical purposes  eg diabetes app

Digital watches that only work as a step counter are absolutely fine – we know these can encourage children to be active. However, if a step-counting watch also has the ability to be used for photos and communication, we will ask children not to wear these or to hand them in to their teacher each day.

Apple air tags or equivalent should not be attached to pupils/belongings either in school, going on school trips or residential trips. This is safeguarding decision.

Tracking devices undoubtedly offer a layer of security, especially in crowded spaces such as festivals or Theme parks, however, it’s crucial not to misuse them for overbearing surveillance over children. Consideration should be given to create safe environments for children, as they explore their space. School trips and residentials are risk assessed and always supervised by experienced staff. Staff value your trust and support with offering your children these out of school experiences.

As always, I thank you for your support which is for the safety and welfare of your children.

  • Spring Term Dates

    Mon 19 Feb 2024

I thought it would be handy to give you information about up and coming dates this half term.

Friday 1st March is a busy day with an author visit, Class 3 Sharing Assembly and a cake sale!

    • Troy Jenkins, author will be visiting school in the morning for a talk and workshop
    • Class 3 Sharing assembly will be at 2.30 and parents are most welcome to come along
    • Class 3 will hold a cake sale after school to raise money for their gardening project (further details to follow)

Thursday 7th March is World Book Day

We will be continuing exploring the work of Troy Jenkins and working around the theme -  All different! All special! We will send further details nearer the time but we would like to invite children to bring in a book that has inspired them. Maybe the main character is daring or proud of how unique they are. Maybe they have an autobiography of a role model of theirs. To really get in the spirit children can come in dressed in an outfit that tells us something about their book or the character in it.

Monday 25th March snapshot reports will be published.

This will be followed by virtual parent/ teacher meetings which will be held throughout the day on Tuesday 26th March. These are ten minute slots which conveniently allow you to take part in the meetings from wherever you are!

The final week of the term is Holy Week and the final day of the spring term is Thursday 28th March. Children will take part in Experience Easter Day on Tuesday 26th which will engage them with the Easter story through a range of practical activities. They will then enjoy some Easter traditions, such as making and wearing Easter bonnets, an Easter egg hunt and baking on the final day of the term, some of which you will be invited to come and join in with from 2.30pm.

  • Author Visit

    Mon 19 Feb 2024

We have organised for children’s author, Troy Jenkinson, to come and visit the school to talk about his books, the enjoyment of reading and becoming a writer, linked with World Book Day. These fantastic picture books have been designed to develop a love of reading while recognising the diversity of our communities. This visit and book signing will take place on Friday 1st March 2024.

When he comes into school, he has agreed to do a book signing and we have negotiated a discounted price of £5 per book (recommended retail price £6.99 and £7.99).

In order to secure your child’s copy of a book at the discount price of £5 each, please send in a completed reply slip, that will b sent home tonight,  along with the money.

If you would like to find out more about Troy Jenkinson and to see his latest book release, please visit his website www.troyjenkinson.com

  • Times Table Rock Star

    Sat 10 Feb 2024

There has been a fierce battle of the bands raging for the past couple of weeks in school as class 3 and 4 were pitched against each other on TTRS!

In Jude’s words, class 3 destroyed it! They won by a long shot.

In celebration, they can come in rock star gear on the first Monday back at school! Rock on class 3 and well done!

  • Awards and Achievements Assembly

    Fri 02 Feb 2024

It was amazing to see so many children sharing their out of school achievements this morning. It was well attended by parents and Mr Swallow, our Chair of Governors commented, ' how lovely this morning was. Engaging, involving and calm as well.'
