  • Let's Celebrate

    Thu 21 Dec 2023

We have so much to shout and about and celebrate that is often over looked in the business of school life. I have tried to capture some of this on our promotional material.

I have updated our flier so that it can be shared with prospective parents who need to make their choices for September 2024 reception starters soon after the Christmas holiday. Funding is allocated to school per child who is on roll at the time of the census in November. We had 88 children on roll at that point this year out of possible 105 places. That means a budget cut for us next year.

We would be grateful if you would promote our wonderful little school and share your experiences. There have been many success stories which we must remember and celebrate.

    Since March 2023 we have:

    • Been graded 'good' with outstanding in the area of Personal Development by OFSTED
    • Delivered a carefully planned and rounded curriculum
    • Taken children in years 3, 4, 5 and 6 on residential trips
    • Taught weekly music, French, art or DT and PSHE lessons (something you will find does not happen in many schools)
    • Offered an extensive range of clubs, activities and instrumental lessons as part of our extra-curricular offer
    • Supported the development and outcomes for children with Special Educational Needs, undertaking extra training where necessary or buying in external services and celebrated this during RESPECT week
    • Provided an extensive well-being package for the benefit of children and their families through ELSA and Pastoral Support
    • Supported a range of charities
    • Trained children to be leaders within our school through their Roles of Responsibility
    • Increased the percentage of children passing the phonics screening in year 1
    • Secured the 2nd best KS2 outcomes in Rushcliffe and in the top 10% of the whole country without boosting, cramming or narrowing the curriculum for year 6
    • Completed the process to join Aspire Multi-Academy Trust
    • Recognised by Aspire for the strengths of the staff team with Mr Owen-Jones being given the role of Maths Lead for the Trust and Mrs Brown SIAMS and Christian Distinctiveness Lead

This is a mere snapshot of our achievements and there are certainly many more to come.

  • End of Term Absences

    Thu 21 Dec 2023

Attendance at school is a partnership between school and parents. Ensuring your child's attendance demonstrates your commitment to this partnership. We know that there are, inevitably reasons why children are absent from school but we ask that you follow our procedures for reporting this.

We have a high number of absences today, and some planned early collections of children. Many of the reasons given will mean these are logged as unauthorised and some have given no reason at all.

For reasons other than illness or medical, such as taking your children away for long weekend, or to see Santa during the school day, you must complete a leave of absence form which is available  from the office or the website.

Whilst normal lessons may not be in place for all classes today and tomorrow, learning opportunities have still been planned.

Class 3 have been having a practical science day, looking at a range of soil samples which were provided by Mrs Scarborough from their farm land. Class 4 have a geography day covering half the objectives for the unit in one immersive day. Classes 1 and 2, having finished maths, English and phonics this morning are set for their wonderful party this afternoon.

  • Message from The Governors

    Wed 20 Dec 2023

Before we break up for a well-deserved and needed Christmas break, we, as governors, would like to congratulate our exceptional pupils, dedicated staff and parents on the school’s overall performance at the end of Key Stage 2 in 2023.

In a recent government data publication, Langar Primary School has been ranked the 2nd highest performing primary school within Rushcliffe. This is a fantastic achievement and places our school within the top 10% of primary schools within the country. We would like to thank all the staff, pupils and parents for their continued support and hard work in striving for excellence for all our pupils.

  • Safer Sleeping for babies over the festive period.

    Thu 14 Dec 2023

Sadly, on average 6 babies die every year in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire where unsafe sleep arrangements are thought to be the case. Local data in relation to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and unsafe sleep, collated since 2009, shows that 39% of babies were known to social care at the time of their death.

Routines often change over the festive season. People may visit friends and relatives, have more to drink and go to bed at different times.  It may be more difficult for parents and caregivers  to find safe sleeping spaces for  babies.

As we approach the festive season, we would like to remind all professionals – including social workers, Early Help, housing providers,  domestic abuse services, mental health workers, alcohol and substance use services and any other professionals working with families – to reinforce the messages about safer sleeping that midwives and health visitors give to parents, as part of their work with families. This applies to babies up to 15 months of age, but particularly in the first 6 months when babies are more at risk of SIDS.

Please familiarise yourself with the guides and information below and share them with families.

  • Christingle and Carol Service

    Thu 14 Dec 2023

We are really looking forward to the Christingle Carol Service tomorrow. We decided to add the Christingle element when we set out all the events and celebration dates at the start of the year as some parents had spoken of their happy memories of this service when they were at school! We hope it brings back lovely memories.

Unlike in years gone by, we have many more health and safety restrictions to adhere to and so the Christingles will be displayed at the front of church rather than carried and lit whilst children hold them. A parent recollected a story of burning a girl's long plait who was stood in front of her when she was in primary school! A scenario we are avoiding!!

I have heard from a parent this morning that some parents have been worrying about not having time to make a Christingle. As previously stated, there is no requirement to make and bring one. The Christingles are to remind children of the meaning of Christmas and to add atmosphere to the service.

We would be delighted if you could join us. The Worship Leaders are leading the whole service, classes 1 and 2 will sing one of their songs form the nativity and we will sing some well known carols.

  • Photographs and Videos

    Wed 13 Dec 2023

I want to thank the parents and families who attended the nativity today and respected the request not to take photos or videos. We have shared individual photos in bags tonight to ensure you have a keepsake.

In our privileged and fortunate lives it is hard to imagine why parents may ask for their child’s photo not to be taken. Strangely this quote was on social media tonight-

“PLEASE THINK BEFORE SHARING PHOTOGRAPHS OF CHILDREN!
Christmas is almost here and so are special events like nativity plays, Christmas parties,Santa visits etc... As parents or carers we naturally want to treasure the memory of such events by taking photos or videos - and then understandably sharing these with family and friends. The most common form of doing this is currently via social media.
However, please think before sharing these photos if they include other children because you could be putting them at risk. Children who are in foster care, are adopted, have fled from domestic violence situations, are subject to court orders or witness protection programmes could all be put in severe danger if their photos are shared on social media. Also by the very nature of these issues, their parents/carers are unlikely to let people know about this and rely on others being respectful to their privacy.”

I know we have families who are very grateful for your understanding and compliance with the request.

  • Christmas So Far!

    Wed 13 Dec 2023

Staff and children are now feeling in the festive spirit having enjoyed the Christmas Fayre on Friday and now the nativity performance.

A huge thank you must be expressed to The Friends of the school who organised a wonderfully festive fayre. There was a warm and friendly atmosphere and it was lovely to socialise with so many families.

The children in class 1 and 2 amazed us with their performance this morning. our new vicar David Rowe was astounded by the talent and confidence of our children. Please look in bags tonight for a little treat for you as a keepsake.

You are all most welcome at the Christingle Service on Friday at 2.00 in church. A chance to reflect on the meaning of Christmas and sing some carols! Please send your children in with a Christingle if you would like to.

  • Class 1 and 2 Nativity

    Tue 12 Dec 2023

We are really looking forward to welcoming class 1 and 2 parents to school tomorrow for the nativity performance. This will start at around 9.30 which will give the children time to get changed. You are welcome to come into the hall after dropping your children off where there will be tea and coffee available  while you wait. If there are any volunteers to serve drinks, it would be greatly appreciated.

Due to the increasing number of children who are not permitted to appear on photos or videos that will be put in the public domain, we are not able to share a video of the performance with you this year. There are many reasons why parents make this decision and it is always for the safeguarding of their children. So that we do not put any child at risk, we also ask you not to video or take photos during the performance but to just sit back and enjoy it.  Staff will take photos of individual children in their costumes and these will be sent out to you.
