  • Pantomime

    Mon 29 Nov 2021

Although Covid-19 is still affecting us, it will not stop us providing your children with a wonderful education and the associated experiences!

We are very excited to be able to host a pantomime from a professional company here at school! Theatre for Schools will be ‘performing’ Aladdin,  virtually via the big screen! None of the stage atmosphere will be lost and the children are in for a real treat. This will take place on Wednesday 15th December.

This will be at a small cost to parents of £5 per child and will include a pantomime goody bag! Please pay this via Squid before the date of the performance - the account will be open from Friday 3rd December.

  • The Gift of Giving - The Rosie May Foundation

    Fri 26 Nov 2021

Your children will have come home munching on Smarties this afternoon and full of laughter from seeing Mrs Mills and Mr Fothergill ride in the pink tuk tuk! This gift has been given by The Rosie May Foundation.

We have found out about the wonderful work they do, supporting local and worldwide causes. We ask that throughout Advent and over the Christmas period, these tubes get filled with coins to go towards the education of children in Sri Lanka.

Please support this very worthy charity this season.

  • Clubs

    Thu 18 Nov 2021

We are delighted to see so many children accessing our extra curricular provision - La Jolie Ronde, tennis, Magical Maths, singing club and instrumental lessons.

Please note - from now on children will be exited onto the playground, as is usual for the end of the school day. The gates will open 5 minutes before the club ends and children will come out to you.

Do ensure you are prompt. La Jolie Ronde KS2 session had to be delayed this evening as KS1 parents were late to pick up.

  • Rotary Club Dictionaries

    Fri 12 Nov 2021

The Rotary Club have, in time honoured tradition, donated dictionaries for our year 5 children. These are a wonderful resource and something that they will find greatly beneficial as they begin their journey through the top end of school and head towards the end of their primary schooling.

We are very grateful to The Rotary Club for their support.

  • Anti-Bullying Week 2021: One Kind Word

Staff are planning lessons and activities that will touch on issues pertinent to each age group. • Walk to Remember - The Second World War 1939 – 1945

    Wed 10 Nov 2021

Take a walk around the village this weekend, taking time to remember the people and events in the village during World War 2. Plot your route on the map and use the website below to find out further information about Langar during this time period.

The Second World War 1939 - 1945 - A History of Langar for young people (jimdofree.com)

    Langar's part in the war

Langar Airfield - RAF Langar There were many military airfields in the East Midlands during the Second World War. The area was largely flat and, being on the east side of England, it was closest to Germany. Royal Air Force Station Langar opened in 1942 during World War II. It was used by both the Royal Air Force Bomber Command, the United States Army Air Forces and the Royal Canadian Air Force.

Evacuees in Langar Langar School’s Admissions Register shows that on Wednesday 13 September 1939 26 children came from Nottingham to stay in Langar and Barnstone - 16 from Queen’s Walk School, 8 from Trent Bridge School and 2 from Bosworth Road School. The oldest child was a boy aged 14, while the youngest was a 5 year-old girl. The addresses where the children stayed are not shown in the Admissions Register. However, almost every house in Langar and Barnstone must have been host to an evacuee.

    The War Commemorated

The War Memorial, which stands in St Andrew's churchyard, was dedicated in 1919. The names of three Langar men who died in the war are written on the opposite side to the First World War casualties.

Inside the church are the Rolls of Honour for those who served in both World Wars. There is a seat in the churchyard dedicated to the men of RAF squadron 207 who died in World War 2 and a Book of Remembrance for the squadron inside the church

There is also a memorial at Langar airfield near the Control Tower
