  • How are You?

    Thu 30 Apr 2020

Some of you received an email from us this week, checking in on the wellbeing of your children as we’d not received an email from you for a week or more and they hadn’t engaged in online learning. I wish to clarify the purpose of this as we are all inclined, at times, to feel questioned and judged.

We care about your children and we care about the families of our children.

When in school we have expert and wonderfully caring staff who notice subtle changes in your children that tell us about their mental health, personal experiences, family situations and wellbeing. We ask children throughout the day how they are, we nurture them, care for them and put things in place to support emotional resilience. You, our fabulous parents, talk to us, cry with us, share your frustrations with us and keep us in the picture so we can support you and, in turn, your children.

We do not have these tools right now, but know that more than ever you and your children may be struggling. We are passing no judgement and are here to help and guide you through this time of educating at home.

So if you receive a wellbeing email next week, think how lucky you are. You belong to a school community that cares deeply about the children and families in it,  and puts the happiness, resilience and personal skills of your child at the heart of what we do so that they can achieve to the best of their ability without barriers and hurdles in their way.

Keep going with your home learning - whatever it looks like. We would love to hear from you and share the journey.

  • Free School Meals

    Thu 23 Apr 2020

As our commitment to your child’s wellbeing continues during this time, we wish to acknowledge  the financial strain and pressure caused by the Coronavirus crisis and the burden this can create for families. If you have had a loss of income or change of financial circumstances you may now be eligible for free school meals. Families in receipt of this provision are currently receiving £15 per child in voucher form, to be spent at allocated supermarkets such as Asda and newly added Aldi.

Please follow the link below to check your eligibility for this scheme. If you have any queries , please get in touch via office@langar.notts.sch.uk, or phone the Mrs Whelan during school hours on Mondays.

  • Welcome to the Summer Term

    Sun 19 Apr 2020

I hope you all had a restful Easter break. Welcome to our very first remote summer term!

We’ve all had to adapt to new ways of working, so I wanted to take the opportunity to say what an amazing job you’re doing supporting your child’s wellbeing and learning during this time.

It’s definitely been a strange and challenging time, so it’s OK if you and your child feel wobbly and worried at the moment. We’re here for you every step of the way as we figure this all out together. Remember, if you have any concerns about helping your child learn or you need any other support from the school, please let us know by emailing your child’s teacher via the class emails class1@langar.notts.sch.uk, class2@langar.notts.sch.uk, class3@langar.notts.sch.uk and class4@langar.notts.sch.uk or to get in touch with me about queries and concerns outside of learning phone the office during school hours on Mondays or send an email to office@langar.notts.sch.uk and I will get in touch.

We miss the children very much, but we must follow the government’s guidance to keep everyone in our community safe. We are continuing to provide childcare for key workers in conjunction with our friends at Cropwell Bishop and we are supporting the provision offered by The Early Years Learning Alliance for pre-school children of Key Workers. Learning and fun will not stop with the closure of the school building and our community will be pulled together through the shared learning experiences we have planned for your children. Weekly time tables will be uploaded to class pages, continuing to be a balance of on and off line activities, as well as any resources needed. I will also continue to update the website with virtual trips, Picture News, collective worship plans, useful links and competitions – so make sure you read your app notifications to find out about these.  We also love seeing, and reading about the children’s fantastic off line learning at home.   Please keep sending their work in via class emails as we would like to showcase it on class pages on our virtual display boards.

Staff are able to monitor the children’s engagement on Purple Mash and Times Table Rock Stars providing a good insight into, not only the learning taking place, but also children’s well-being and a weekly email from you adds a wider picture to this. To ensure we are fulfilling our duty of care to your children staff are keeping a log of engagement in the work we have set, both through on line platforms and your weekly emails. If they have not seen engagement from your child for a week an email will be sent to check in with you and if no response if given, you will receive a phone call to ensure there is no underlying issue.

There is much speculation, but as yet we do not know when we’ll be able to open the school fully, but rest assured that we’ll continue doing our utmost to keep your child learning and our school community connected.

  • Easter Holidays

    Sun 05 Apr 2020

A huge 'well-done' to you all for getting through these last two extraordinary weeks. In keeping your children at home, you have all played your part in slowing down the spread of the virus that has brought the whole country to this unprecedented 'lockdown'.

Although not based at school, staff have been very busy providing activities and learning opportunities for your children and communicating with them via class blogs on Purple Mash. They have really enjoyed receiving emails from you, updating them about all the things your family are doing and the learning taking place at home. We are so impressed with the way in which you have engaged with the tasks set and have shared some of the work submitted on 'virtual display boards' on class pages.

Please remember - this is not home schooling. Schools and families were not given time to prepare for the situation we are in now, and it is not a situation we are in out of choice. Many of you are trying to juggle this with doing your job at home, and staff are trying to juggle this whilst having their own children and families at home! We are fortunate that we had good systems in place already and enjoy positive relationships with you, our supportive families, who are keen to get on board with continuing children's learning journeys whilst they are unable to be in school. We count our blessings for that.

This is home learning. You will find approaches, methods and styles that work for you and your children. Your home learning might be solely adhering to the timetables set, or dipping in and out of these activities and allowing your children time to play or be creative or you may have a family project of your own you are working on.  Whatever it looks like for you, whatever works for your family is whatever is right. As acknowledged in our school trinity; learning is not just the acquisition of knowledge, but the development of skills and a core set of values. Laying the table, helping cook dinner, weeding the garden etc are all valid learning opportunities too! You will be providing your children with skills for life right now.

Over the two week 'holiday' we would like to give you a break from the more formal learning ideas we have provided. You will find an 'Easter Holiday' page on the Home Learning pages with plenty of ideas for you to select from and class pages have been updated too.

We wish you a happy Easter and would love to hear some of your news via emails we have provided.
