  • Entry and Exit Points to School

    Tue 30 Jun 2020

Thank you to all the parents who have taken the time to read the copious amount of paperwork I have sent outlining the plans for your children's safe return to school. Each part of the plan has been carefully considered to ensure the least amount of contact between adults and adults, adults and children, children and children to prevent the spread of Covid - 19.

An important part of the plan is the drop off and collection points for each bubble. All year group bubbles have followed this part of the plan to the letter for which I am very grateful.

Can I remind the parents collecting children from the house bubble:

Ensure prompt arrival at the end of the session.
Do not loiter in a large group outside the school gate.
Adhere to 2m social distancing at all times.
Come into the playground where your child will be sent over to you.
Follow the one way system around the school building and exit through the school car park.

Although I appreciate this may seem tedious, all parts of the plan have been put together with the safety of your families and the wider Langar community at the heart of it.

  • Wider Reopening Further Information

    Fri 19 Jun 2020

We are exceptionally proud of the fact we have fulfilled the government ambition to return all children before the end of the summer term. This is no small undertaking. We are still hearing about local schools who have capped provision to only KS1; others who have allowed children back on a first come first served basis meaning some children have not been allocated a place; some who are still only open to key workers and others who aren't opening until next week. We do hope that by widening our invitation to all year groups demonstrates the love we have for your children and the fair way in which we have tried to carry out the planning.

Having more children onsite means it is vitally important that the measures in place to ensure social distancing between adults and children are adhered to.

    • Please arrive in your allocated time slot and leave the site promptly.
    • Use the one way system in and out of school.
    • Be careful when exiting through the car park, keeping your children next to you at all times. Several children have been observed playing in the vegetable garden. This is not permitted, please stop them from doing so.

Mrs Selby is going to start serving dinners from Monday 22nd June.

    • Children who have now been with us for a week or more will now be provided with a school dinner if this is their usual arrangement. Please ensure your Squid account is in credit.
    • The children in house groups need to bring a packed lunch for the week they are in.

If you have any items at home that belong to school, please send these in when your children come in. This includes books, cups and trophies etc. Likewise, if your child has belongings at school, pop in and collect them.

We are really looking forward to seeing you and the children and hope this brings some semblance of normality to these very strange times.

  • PE, Sport and Wellbeing Apprenticeships

    Wed 17 Jun 2020

We have been very fortunate over the last two years to host a Sports Apprentice here. The skills and experience that we have been able to nurture in them have been paid back ten-fold in the skills and experiences that they have been able to give to our children. Mr Hall is completing the final part of his apprenticeship with us at the moment.

Inspire Plus are currently recruiting candidates for next years' apprenticeship programme. It is suitable for anyone aged 16 and over with an enthusiasm and drive to work with children through the medium of sport.

If you know anyone who might be interested in joining this training programme, please share the details with them. We would highly recommend it.

  • Connecting with Faith

    Fri 12 Jun 2020

Many of our families have been in touch to say how special they have found the collective worship resources we have been sharing. These have allowed space and time to reflect on the role that faith and Christianity plays in their lives.

After spending time supporting your children with their learning, maybe you would like some time for you. Rev. Rachel Mitchell is going to be starting an online Alpha course, starting on Wednesday 24th June at 7.30pm.

Alpha is an 11-week course that creates a space where people are excited to bring their friends for a conversation about faith, life and God.

For more details of how you can join, please contact Revd Rachel & Sid on 07944 992178 or email: rector@wivertoninthevale.co.uk

  • Phased Reopening of Schools - Next Steps

    Wed 10 Jun 2020

It has been wonderful to have children in school this week, filling the rooms with friendship, learning and laughter once more. Tomorrow I will let you know about the next step of our reopening plan.

Yesterday's announcement from the government about children from years 2, 3, 4 and 5 not returning to school before the summer holiday came as no surprise to head teachers.  With the restrictions on the number of children in bubbles, requirement for social distancing and amounts of staff needed in each bubble; being able to accommodate the whole school was always going to be an impossibility. However, in true Langar spirit and rooted in our school values I am making decisions about how to ensure no child misses out, is disadvantaged or treated unfairly.

We have been so impressed by your engagement and support of home learning. The emails and messages we have received from you have filled us with pride. Do not underestimate what you have taught your children during this time. We know many of you are worried about gaps in your children's learning and undeniably they have missed out on the direct teaching of certain concepts and themes that were planned for the summer term. But we would urge you to reflect on the wider skills and values that you have nurtured in your children and the memories you have made.

Please remember the cause and reason for your children not being in school. None of us were in this situation by choice but with enthusiasm, flexibility and determination we have embraced it and worked with it. We now need to hold onto these virtues as we move into the phased reopening stage.

  • Phased School Reopening

    Mon 01 Jun 2020

It has been wonderful to be in school today with the staff team planning for children to return.

We have come to the difficult decision that we are going to have to postpone reopening to year groups for at least a week. Unfortunately, as I am sure you will have seen in the local news,  we remain in the same situation as on Friday as we await feedback from Trade Unions on the risk assessments we have carried out and in light of further guidance, review the suitability of the plans we have put in place to mitigate the risk of viral spread.

I am saddened to not have more concrete news for you. It is imperative in the current crisis that we remain flexible and open to advice in order to not put the health and wellbeing of staff, children and the wider community at risk.

Along with Dr Helen Baxter, governors and staff I will review progress towards the end of the week and will communicate this to you. I am sure it goes without saying, that we are all desperate to get children back in school and to create a sense of normality. Until then, please look at class pages and continue to follow the home learning provided.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support. This is a matter that is, sadly, out of our hands.
