    Mon 17 Oct 2022

I hope you are enjoying the first day of the holidays. Several of us have been busy in school today , catching up on jobs and preparing for next half term.

The class 1 team have been reorganising and revamping the learning environment and have taken delivery of some exciting enhancements for the outdoor area. However these have arrived flat packed! If you have the time and energy to put these together after half term, it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Faith and Values Leader Worship

    Thu 13 Oct 2022

The Faith and Values Leaders led a wonderful worship this afternoon.

    The scripture was Psalm 33:

Happy is the nation whose God is

        the Lord.
Happy are the people he chose for

        his very own.
The Lord looks down from heaven.
        He sees every person.

        From his throne he watches
        everyone who lives on earth.
         He made their hearts.
       He understands everything they do

They used these songs to think about what God is like and how he watches over his people. Wonderful Lord

  • Bonfire Night Disco

    Thu 13 Oct 2022

Thank you for all of the kind offers of help for the Bonfire Night Disco. I will respond to all of these parents to allocate a role and give timings etc.

A couple of eagle-eyed parents have pointed out that the original published date for the disco was Thursday 3rd November. By pure oversight, I have now organised the event on Friday 4th!! I apologise for the confusion. It is going ahead on Friday 4th November.

Class 4 parents will be invited to the class 4 celebration worship on the same afternoon at 2.30, which will be an opportunity for the children to share the learning they have been doing. Any parent volunteers attending this can then stay on to set up for the disco. Children will be permitted to get changed into disco clothes at the end of the school day - 3.20 - with the disco starting about 3.30.

  • Show Racism the Red Card

    Thu 13 Oct 2022

Our school values ensure children understand how to treat people with respect and fairness. We celebrate difference and explore this through PSHE and collective worship. We provide a range of role models, values champions and historical figures to try to diversify our children's view of the world in which they live.

We want to further the children's understanding of why these behaviours are so important and how it feels to be treated unkindly because of difference.

Tomorrow, children are invited to wear red (either a single item of clothing, full outfit or an accessory) to show support for Show Racism the Red Card. Children will take part in activities to get age-appropriate understanding of this topic.

Your children may come home with thoughts and questions and you may wish to explore this further at home. We may use some of the following resources:

Key Stage 1 will look at the story of Amazing Grace by Mary Hoffman

Grace loves stories, whether they're from books, movies, or the kind her grandmother tells. When her school decides to perform Peter Pan, Grace longs to play the lead, but her classmates point out that Peter was a boy. Besides, he wasn't black.

With the support of her family, Grace learns that she can be anything she wants to be, and the results are amazing!

Key Stage 2 will pick activities and tasks fROMm a range of resources. These may include:

    22391_RESPECTME_REDCARD_V4.pdf (squarespace.com)

PSHE KS2: Bullying and racism - BBC Teach

    At+home+worksheet++-+Who+Am+I.pdf (squarespace.com)

If you struggle to talk to your children about this matter, please take a look at the video:

The Adanna and David Family: the books we use to talk about racism to our children - BBC Bitesize

  • Reading Volunteers

    Wed 12 Oct 2022

As you know, reading has always been a strength of our school and we support children's reading in any way we can. In key stage 1 children are heard read regularly in school and at home, but in key stage 2 this always lessens as they become more independent.

We have a number of children in key stage 2 who would benefit from reading to an adult and are looking for reading volunteers to undertake this. My suggestion is that these sessions would take place at 8.30am until 8.50am before lessons start. However, if you have availability at another point of the day, we will incorporate this. We will provide training for our volunteers and undertake a full DBS check.

If you are interested in this role, please email head@langar.notts.sch, letting me know your availability.
