  • Phonics Meeting for Parents

    Thu 29 Sep 2022

As you were made aware at the start of term, we have implemented a new phonics and reading scheme for EYFS and KS1. We are following the DFE recommended Essential Letters and Sounds scheme to teach phonics and have purchased new reading books and e-books to go alongside it.

Staff have had to undertake training to become familiar with the methods used to teach phonics via Essential Letter and Sounds. Some of the approaches used, such as ‘robot arms’ and the ‘pure’ way the sounds are pronounced have taken some getting used to.

The scheme relies heavily on consistency and repetition which are proven ways of enabling children to learn quickly and remember well. We have seen this impact already after only three weeks!

Having parents on board to support reading at home and further rehearse the sounds learned will enhance children’s learning experience. In order for you to support your children, we are offering you the opportunity to come and find out about the scheme, the approaches used and the reading books that will be sent home.

Mrs Male and Mrs Richardson are going to run a parent workshop for parents of children in classes 1 and 2,  on Wednesday 5th October in the hall straight after school. This will last about a half an hour and you can bring your children in to sit with you.

Please return the slip provided on the letter (which will be sent tomorrow)  so that we have an idea of numbers attending.

If you are unable to attend, you can find further information about ELS on the English page of our website.

  • Harvest Collective Worship

    Thu 22 Sep 2022

We are really looking forward to our Harvest Worship which will take place in St Andrew's Church on Friday 30th September at 2.00pm. It will be a fantastic opportunity to gather in new members of our school community, some of whom will be attending church as school child or parent for the first time.

We are asking for donations for The Friary, who we have supported in the past, for the wonderful work they do with local homeless people. The Friary will use the produce we collect to provide meals for the 100 homeless people who pass through their door every week.

Please send in donations of dried or preserved food so that they can store it and use for the duration of winter. In particular they need high calorie, nutritious food including cereal bars, biscuits and chocolate bars.

Donations can be sent in on Friday morning. Please make sure it is something your child can carry to church!

Thank you, as ever, in anticipation of your support and generosity. It is wonderful to see our school values being lived out and impacting so positively on the lives of others.

The service may finish just shy of the end of the school day. If this is the case, you are welcome to follow us back to school where we will open the playground early for you to collect your children so that you do not have to wait in the cold.

  • Parent Survey

    Thu 22 Sep 2022

We were thrilled that during our OFSTED inspection 60% of our families were keen to share your views about the school. The outcomes of this survey (which is conducted via their platform - Parent View) was overwhelmingly positive, with 100% of you stating that your child feels safe at school, is happy at school and that you would recommend us to another parent.

However, we would love to hear the views of all our families and give you the opportunity to provide comments, which Parent View does not.

We are using a platform called Nautilus Education which will allow us to analyse your responses and provide summative data from the submissions. Please follow the link below and share your views with us. Your opinion matters.

We will be looking at the surveys on Friday 30th September so please ensure you have completed the questionnaire by then.

Links for each class have been sent to your emails. If you have children in multiple classes you may complete one per child, or one that is representative of your families views.

Thank you for your support as always.

  • Roles of Responsibility

    Thu 22 Sep 2022

The roles have been allocated to children and they are wearing their badges with pride!

These children will  play such an important part in the running of school - supporting and promoting reading, organising and delivering collective worship, upholding and recognising the school values and even sharing the views of the children with staff, governors and Rushcliffe Pupil Parliament.

We are pleased to have them on board and look forward to their training sessions next week.

  • Fire Drill

    Wed 21 Sep 2022

Your children took part in the first fire drill of the year this morning.  Knowing how to stay safe and calm in the event of a fire is a vital and lifesaving skill for children. Their conduct was impeccable and we managed to vacate the building and be in our safe spaces on the field in 3 minutes!

Should you ever arrive at school and hear the fire alarm sounding, please remain outside of the building. Once you see children coming back into the building from the filed, you can then come back onto the site.
