    Fri 29 Nov 2019

We have two exciting new projects to share with you and ask for your help with!

    Ecobricks

The Outdoor Learning Club, together with Year 5 have started to talk about using Eco Bricks to build structures in and around school.  Based on the fantastic research that Year 5 did the Outdoor Learning Club wish to build a raised plant border around the vegetable patch – a starter project! This will allow us to have a defined walking and planting area.

Can you help us by making an Ecobrick at home?

    What will you need?

An empty and clean 2 litre plastic single use pop or water bottle

A long implement to push the waste in (stick or paint brush)

    Clean and dry waste

What can I put in my Ecobrick?

Plastic bags, photo paper, straws, food containers, plastic cutlery, cling film, plastic fruit and vegetable packaging – larger plastic items may need cutting into smaller pieces

X Metal, paper, card, food waste or glass

The Outdoor Learning Club started to make some Ecobricks this week – it was quite tricky to get the waste material in – so you really need a long stick to be able to get every gap filled so it is packed tightly.

! Please make sure you weigh your brick before bringing into school – it needs to be strong

enough!  A 2 Litre bottle should weigh no less than 660g.

Please bring to Mrs George when done – thank you so much!

    Plastic Bottle Greenhouse Alert

The Outdoor Learning Club are going to build a Greenhouse made out

    of plastic bottles.

Can you help us by collecting your empty 2 litre pop/water bottles?

There is a black circular bin to the side of the main school bins in the car

park – if you could leave your bottles in there for us we would be very

grateful – we probably need around 1000!

In addition can you help by donating any unwanted wooden pallets or bricks for the frame and base?  Please talk to Mr McMillan if you can help with this.

  • Welcoming our new Rector - Rev'd Rachel Mitchell

    Tue 19 Nov 2019

St Andrew’s Church in Langar was filled with the family and friends of the Rev’d Rachel Mitchell on Tuesday evening as she was licensed by the Bishop of Southwell & Nottingham, the Rt Revd Paul Williams as Rector of Wiverton in the Vale in the Deanery of East Bingham.

We were delighted to play a part in the service and welcomed her with warm words and a Bible. Tilly and Robert represented our school beautifully and were complimented on the way in which the conducted themselves.

Rachel's previous post was Assistant Curate in the Benefice of Radcliffe-on-Trent and Shelford. She said: “What a great evening at St Andrew’s Langar! We so appreciated the support of family, friends and people representing the nine villages and six churches across the parish. We have received such a warm welcome and are looking forward to getting out and about over the coming months to get to know everyone. Feeling thankful!”

Bishop Paul added: “I am delighted that Rachel has followed God’s call to serve in the parish of Wiverton in the Vale.  Rachel has a creative and compassionate heart for mission that will build on the good foundations already laid in these communities. I am very grateful to all those serving across the parish who have not only sustained the ministry of the Church during the period of interregnum, but have also been inspired to consider new ways to reach children and their families in these villages.”

  • Inspire+ - Sporting News

    Thu 14 Nov 2019

This morning Mr Zisaruk- Gibson launched The Legacy Challenge - a scheme designed by Inspire+ to engage children in a healthy and active lifestyle through a series of fun and exciting daily challenges. Each child will be provided with a booklet that outlines the challenges which the children will then log on completion at school. The first challenge is for them to complete a mile every day for 26 days - this can be walked, hopped, run. Our track is ideal for this as four laps equals one mile!

The challenge is supported by Inspire+ Ambassadors, some of whome we met last year. They are Paralympian Sam Ruddock, Olympian Sophie Allen, 401 Challenge runner Ben Smith, Adventurer Sarah Outen and Paralympian Jonathan Broom-Edwards.These ambassadors are very important for Legacy Challenge, because they each have created a challenge for the children to complete.

To further support and encourage active play, our year 5 children have been trained as Playground Leaders. They graduated from this programme today and were awarded Playground Leader Caps by sports coach, Jack Medley.

We look forward to celebrating the challenges and activities a and when your children complete them!
