  • Coronavirus Latest Guidelines

    Fri 13 Mar 2020

As you will be aware, the government announced further preventative measures for the spread of Coronavirus yesterday. These included self-isolating if you have a high temperature or new continuous cough.

You can read the guidance here.

    https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

Please follow this guidance from today in order to stop the spread of the illness to vulnerable people. Absenteeism for children who have been isolated because of these measures will be authorised.

  • Grown Up Week - Careers in the Pet Care Industry

    Thu 12 Mar 2020

We were very fortunate that our parents here have such a wide variety of jobs and careers! This week we have only managed to hear from a handful of them, though many more volunteered, and we would love to invite more of you in in the future. The week has truly inspired the children and made them consider the ways in which we are educating them in readiness for life in the adult world and the contributions their personal characteristics, skills and talents could contribute to society.

Today we welcomed Mr and Mrs Desforges who work for Waltham Petcare Science Institute https://www.waltham.com/ . The children thoroughly enjoyed their talks and workshops exploring pet well-being,

Mr Desforges spoke to the children about sensory science -  how we and animals taste/smell and how this is used to understand whether dogs and cats like their food, the different smell/taste types - why some people like certain foods etc, and why cats can't taste sugar! Mrs Desforges gave a talk about what makes dogs and cats happy, how they live and what is important for their welfare.

The children were given cat and dog treats to take home of their pets!

  • Grown Up Week - Careers in Agriculture

    Thu 12 Mar 2020

We were treated to an exciting an informative morning yesterday by Kay Gugliotta who came to talk to the children about careers in agriculture. The children learned about different types of farming, the equipment and machinery used as well as the skills needed to work them.

Kay works at Newark Showground where children and families can experience the excitement of farming and rural life on 9th to 10th May at Nottinghamshire County Show.

  • Grown Up Week - Tarmac

    Wed 11 Mar 2020

Our children had a visit from a very local industry yesterday - Tarmac, who sent Niki and Tim to talk to the children about the variety of job roles on offer there. We were fascinated to find out that 75 people are employed at the local plant but that nearly 80,000 work for CRH, their parent company all over the world.

The children heard about how cement is made - from the gathering of shale and limestone at the quarry to bagging it up at the local plant. Harrison got to try on some of the safety wear that employees have to wear before Niki and Tim  went into classes to do workshops.

  • Parents Invited

    Wed 11 Mar 2020

We have two assemblies coming up to which parents are invited. The first of which is at 9.00am on Friday 20th March and is Awards Assembly. We invite your children to bring in any certificates or awards that they have achieved since the last assembly on 7th October 2019. It is a lovely way to celebrate and acknowledge the range of activities, clubs and hobbies the children do outside of school and gives children a chance to find out about the number of things on offer in the local area. We would be delighted if you could join us.

The second assembly is at 9.00 on Friday 27th March and is Hot Chocolate Assembly. This is to celebrate all the children who have been rewarded with hot chocolate this term. You will know if your child is included in this as you will have received a postcard when they had hot chocolate! I will send an email to parents that this concerns as a reminder. If you have multiple children in school, please refer to your postcard to check which child it refers to.

At both events, tea, coffee and breakfast bites will be on sale from 8.40 while you wait for the assembly to begin,  at a cost of 50p an item.

  • Grown Up Week - Art Dealer

    Tue 10 Mar 2020

Grown Up week started yesterday with a fantastic talk and workshop led by Elizabeth Parnham, an art dealer. The children were fascinated to hear about how the world of art works and the substantial amounts of money that collectors pay for their favourite pieces!

Elizabeth brought three pieces from her gallery to show the children who then tried to recreate them using a variety of media. The seven lucky children who's work was judged to be most like the original pieces are going to have their work framed by the George Thornton Art Gallery in Nottingham and one piece will be displayed there for a week! We would like to congratulate the winners, who are:

    Reception - George

    Year 1 - Lily

    Year 2 - Noah

    Year 3 - Amber

    Year 4 - Ben

    Year 5 - Cate

    Year 6 - Florence

  • Family Quiz Night

    Fri 06 Mar 2020

Children, parents, grandparents and friends had a wonderful night last night at our Family Quiz! There were some very tricky rounds - including identifying flags, jellybean tasting and Dingbats - but the brains in the room, fuelled by Fruit Shoots, brioche, sweets and crisps, worked hard and a great time was had by all.

The McMillan Family (White Rabbits Team) and The Morris Family (Brain Stormers Team) were joint winners of our bedtime in a box prize scoring 77 points.

Thank you to all of you who supported this event - it was a fabulous fun from start to finish.

  • Family Quiz Night

    Tue 03 Mar 2020

We are thoroughly looking forward to hosting our quiz night and are glad to see so many reply slips returned. We still have availability for further entries but these must be returned by tomorrow in order for us to order refreshments and prepare quiz packs.

As you will be aware there is no charge for entry for this event but snacks and drinks will be on sale. There will be a lucky dip for children and games of card bingo and heads and tails - there will be a small charge for entry to these games. Please try to bring change!

  • The Book Fair

    Mon 02 Mar 2020

We were sadden to find out that the company who run the book fair, The Book People have gone into administration. This is bad news for schools who have always taken advantage of their wonderful offers on quality books and resources.

Due to this, the book fair is not going to be coming to school this week. However we would encourage you to take a look at The Book People's closing down sale - https://www.thebookpeople.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/qs_home_tbp?storeId=10001&catalogId=10051&langId=100&gclid=CjwKCAiA-vLyBRBWEiwAzOkGVBQ1EWQd20amanYn4CdeWSjDa5IjOtwvwypljUQQYL8ndvg9Us7FuBoCxjwQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

As we are no longer hosting the book fair we are organising a book swap. Your children are invited to bring in any unwanted books they may have at home. These will be sorted and organised by Mrs Mills into age groups and children will be given the opportunity to go and choose a book to take home. Please send these books in over the course of the week in readiness for the book swap on Thursday.
