We welcome you to follow us back to school when it has ended to either take your children to the Book Fair or home.

  • Class 4 Sharing Assembly

    Mon 07 Nov 2022

It was wonderful to welcome so many parents of class 4 children to their assembly on Friday. It was a great opportunity for them to share their learning and for parents to see first hand what amazing progress they have made so far this year.

We really appreciated the audience participation and all enjoyed learning about yoga, how our pupils react to light and dark and how to incorporate perspective in a drawing. The quality of writing was amazing and we were impressed by the coding project they had undertaken.

Each class will get the same oppportinity so watch out for up and coming dates.

  • Dogs Trust Workshops

    Thu 03 Nov 2022

The children have benefitted from an assembly and workshops from The Dogs Trust today. The focus of this was how to stay safe around dogs.

Alison, who delivered the workshops said, “I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Langar Primary School. Behaviour was exceptional throughout and the children were engaged, inquiring, and participated with interest and enthusiasm. A big thank you to the staff for making me feel so welcome and a part of the team for the day!”

In recent years the number of injuries and fatalities from dog attacks has increased and this is a danger children (and parents) must be aware of.

'Dog attacks have risen significantly over the past decade, according to figures published by NHS Digital. The health service recorded 3,079 admissions for the treatment of dog bites in 1999, increasing almost threefold to 8,655 over the past year. Of these, 614 children under the age of four were bitten. However, those in their fifties were the most likely to have needed treatment last year, the data showing 713 incidents involving people aged 50 to 54 and 704 involving those aged 55 to 59.'

Alison has provided a link for a parent leaflet so that you can reinforce the messages at home: bedogsmart-parentsleaflet.pdf (learnwithdogstrust.org.uk)

  • Scholastic Book Fair

    Thu 03 Nov 2022

We are really excited to be hosting a Scholastic book fair from Wednesday 9th until Tuesday 15th November. The Book Fair will be open to children during the day on each of those days and will be open to parents on Thursday and Friday after school too. If you are unable to come in but would like to see the books on offer, you can do so here The Book Fair selection - Scholastic Book Fairs

The Book Fair is a wonderful way to enhance your children's book collection at home, promote a love of reading and raise funds to improve our selection of books in school.

You can complete the Wish List which will need to be sent into school to receive your purchases and make your payment https://bookfairs.scholastic.co.uk/pay/1243332 OR you can send your child in with cash. If you come to the book fair with your child, you can either pay using cash, or online by following the link, which will also be displayed as a QR code for ease during the fair.

Please note: If you pay online we must receive the Wish List to inform us of your purchases

 If you choose to pay by cash on the allocated days above you need to ensure the cash is in a named envelope which also needs to clearly note the name of the book they would like to purchase

 The school does not hold any cash so any cash payments will need to be the exact amount enclosed. Should we not have enough copies of any of the books then we will place an order and these will arrive within a few days and then be sent home with your child.

Don’t forget that every book you buy can help to get FREE BOOKS for our school!

If you wish to engage your children in some of the available books ahead of the book fair, take a look at these authors reading excerpts from their own books:

  • Trading Cards

    Wed 02 Nov 2022

A number of children have brought in trading cards - Pokemon and Football. These are always enjoyed by children but have a tendency to cause fall outs and upset!

As a consequence, we are only permitting children to have these cards in school on a Friday when we will provide children with time and space to share and trade them. Please ensure they are not brought in at any other times as they will be confiscated and kept by the teacher until Friday.

  • Parent Governor Ballot

    Tue 01 Nov 2022

We are really fortunate to have five excellent candidates for the role of parent governor. Tomorrow you will receive a ballot form so that you can cast your vote for your preferred one. As there are two parent governor vacancies you should vote for your two preferred candidates.

Your children will be provided with two forms - one per parent - as all parents have the right to vote. These need to be returned by 10.00am on Wednesday 9th November via the ballot box which will be in the foyer by the office.

You can read about the candidates here to inform your choice:

Brief personal details supplied by candidates

Julia Croft– I am the Director of my own Forensic Psychology practice, working in many different areas of the community to help assess and rehabilitate offenders. I have a high level of compassion and know well how the education system can impact upon someone’s current and future life journey. I am passionate and committed to helping people and will strive to ensure that the school provides the best environment for the children to flourish.

Stephanie Spencer- I have a degree in Youth Justice and have spent the majority of my career in the health and social care sector. I now work for the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham in Safeguarding. I am the Chair of Governors at Radcliffe on Trent Infant and Nursery School, whereby I am also the safeguarding governor. I am keen to use my skillset and experience of both safeguarding and governance to support the governing body of Langar Primary School.

Ceri WainwrightAs an Occupational Therapist, I put others at the centre of what I do. If elected as a school governor, I will have the same caring approach. One where I will do all I can to support the children at Langar. I am passionate about the partnership between home and school, with the primary focus of doing what is best for the children. I feel a happy child learns best so children’s well-being will be a focus of mine.

Katrina Bradley – With 3 children, the school has been a major part of my family’s life for 6 years and will continue to be so for at least another 7 years. I would like this opportunity to become a parent governor to support the school in providing a positive and successful learning environment. I believe my professional experience, as a teacher, would support this role due to my understanding of the education system, the curriculum, special educational needs and safeguarding.

Andrew Bunney- I’d like to apply for the role of governor. I have 2 pupils at the school at the moment. I am currently a deputy headteacher at a 2-19 special school with responsibility for Quality of Education and Personal Development.  I am Designated Safeguarding Lead for some of the most vulnerable young people in society. I am also an expert team leader (pupil progression) for our school improvement team across our MAT. I feel my experience, knowledge and passion for developing life chances of young people will benefit Langar school in the next stage of its journey.
