  • Nativity Change of Plan

    Fri 09 Dec 2022

Thank you so much for all your kindness and understanding this week. It has been challenging with so many poorly children and staff. As a consequence, rehearsing the nativity (with almost a third of children missing for part or all of the week) has been difficult and due to staff shortages, we have not been able to walk the children over to church to rehearse in the space.

We have therefore decided to perform the nativity in the school hall on Tuesday. This will take place at the slightly earlier time of 9.30am. If we have any willing volunteers to make a serve tea and coffee, we could invite you to come in a socialise before it begins.

Depending on levels of absence on Monday, we may have to do an adapted version of the story as some of the key parts have not had actors for them this week. It may not be the Oscar winning standard we are used to! When all children return to school, either before the end of term, or in January, we will still film a full performance of the nativity to put on the website and for you to enjoy at home. So we may win the Oscar yet!

  • Key messages for parents about Scarlet Fever

    Wed 07 Dec 2022

The Local Authority have shared information with us today that Scarlet Fever is being reported in higher numbers than usual at the moment. They want us to share this information with you:

    1. Group A strep (GAS) is a common bacteria which causes a range of infections, including scarlet fever. These infections are usually mild. GAS is spread by close contact with an infected person and can be passed on through coughs and sneezes or from a wound. Invasive group A strep (iGAS) is a rare infection when the bacteria gets into parts of the body where it can cause more serious disease, like the lungs or bloodstream.

    2. There are currently higher than seasonal expected levels of scarlet fever. The early symptoms of scarlet fever include sore throat, headache, fever, nausea and vomiting followed by a characteristic red, pinhead rash giving the skin a sandpaper-like texture. For more information and advice, please see:  Scarlet fever - NHS (www.nhs.uk)

    3. To help reduce all infections, good hand and respiratory hygiene are important, including:

    • washing hands for 20 seconds with warm water and soap

    • catching coughs and sneezes using tissues – catch it, bin it, kill it

    • keeping away from others when feeling unwell.

    4. As a parent, if you feel that your child seems seriously unwell, you should trust your own judgement.

Contact NHS 111 or your GP if:

    • your child has a sore throat, fever, chills or muscle aches, but they are getting worse

    • your child is eating much less than normal

    • you child shows signs of dehydration

    • your child has a

temperature of 39oC or higher. 5.

Call 999 or go to A&E if:

    • your child is having difficulty breathing – you may notice grunting noises or their tummy sucking under their ribs

    • there are pauses when your child breathes

    • your child’s skin, tongue or lips are blue

    • your child is floppy and will not wake up or stay awake.

  • Friends of Langar Church of England Primary School - Christmas Hamper

    Mon 05 Dec 2022

Some of our wonderful Friends of the school are organising a hamper and Christmas raffle. They have some lovely luxury items so far as well as some donated vouchers from local businesses. However, they would really appreciate your help.

If you have anything to donate or are able to get a prize from a business or firm, please bring it to the school office by Friday 9th December.

All money raised will go towards a class set of I-Pads for the children!

  • Illness

    Mon 05 Dec 2022

We still have a high number of children, and now staff off with a flu virus. Staff who have it have a high temperature, aching body, sore throat, bad cough and sinus pain. The symptoms seem to come in waves and some of those staff thought they were on the mend last week only to have symptoms reappear over the weekend.

We have also had a child with confirmed cases of Scarlet Fever. This is a contagious infection that is easily treatable, but which can in some cases be serious. You will also have heard on the news about the surge in cases of Strep A.

The most common symptoms of Strep A are a sore throat, fever, red/sore tonsils, however in many cases this infection can occur without symptoms.

The most common symptoms of Scarlet Fever to look out for are flu-like symptoms (high temperature, sore throat) which then progress to a rash within 48 hours.

Please be vigilant for signs of infection in your child, and notify the school office should your child display these or if you are in doubt about whether or not to send them to school.

A link to the NHS website for Scarlet Fever is attached for your reference: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/scarlet-fever/

If your child is currently unwell, please allow them time to heal by keeping them at home.

  • Jingle Jog

    Fri 02 Dec 2022

Thank you to all the parents of class 3 who supported and co-ordinated lifts to take them to the Jingle Jog at Rushcliffe Country Park this morning.

The children had a fantastic time running the 2km course and eating the cakes kindly provided by Mrs Crowder!

  • The Travelling Nativity

    Thu 01 Dec 2022

Posada is an old Mexican tradition where young people dressed as Mary and Joseph travelled from house to house asking for a room for the night and telling people about the imminent arrival of Jesus in the weeks leading up to Christmas. On Christmas Eve they would visit the local church to re-enact the nativity and place figures of Mary and Joseph in a crib.

Modern day Posada uses nativity figures of Mary and Joseph who travel from place to place. This gives each ‘host’ the chance to create their own celebration in their home or place in the community, worshipping and reaching out to their communities with the real message of Christmas, making room for Jesus in their lives.

This year we are sending the Travelling Nativity to the families of Langar!  Families will be invited to host Mary, Joseph and the donkey for an evening and night each and then pass them on to another family.

In each bag you will find, a nativity set, a simple version of the nativity story and a candle.

Please email head@langar.notts.sch.uk with any reflections you have – including photographs if you wish to share them. These will be collated on the website. Return the set the next morning in readiness for them to continue their journey.

We do hope you enjoy this special activity with your children in readiness for Christmas.
